I received a brief email message from my brother yesterday, confirming an event we'd all been sadly waiting for:

Velvet's time came today. He breathed his last at about 2:45PM and is now at peace. He has some new friends now - Benny, Max, and Mandy.

Thanks for the touching Eulogy for Velvet "Rydzynski", 3 July 1991 to 5 January 2008.

Benny, Max and Mandy are other cats my family has owned and who, like Velvet, have gone to the great scratching post in the sky.

I feel very sad right now, even though I didn't bond with the cat the way others in my family did. I feel their sorrow at the loss of a little friend. Granted - it was his time. He was very old, sick, and could barely walk. He puttered around as much as he was able and had great difficulty jumping up onto things like chairs or couches. That's a sign for sure, given that he was a cat and cats do that kind of thing.

So, goodbye little friend. We'll miss you.
